From our Head of College

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As you read this letter, I am representing Dulwich College Seoul at the EdVenture: Seoul’s Gateway to Global Investment roundtable, held at the British Embassy. Alongside representatives from other international schools and expat parents, I am engaging in discussions to highlight the crucial role that foreign schools play in attracting foreign direct investment to Korea. By sharing our experiences and insights, we aim to raise awareness among government and elected officials about the value foreign schools bring to Seoul’s attractiveness as a global investment destination.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of attending the Year 6 Morning Mingle at our B1 Atrium Coffee Shop, where our Year 6 students officially kicked off this Term 3 event series. The Morning Mingle provides an opportunity for students, staff, and parents to come together in a relaxed setting and enjoy some light refreshments while strengthening our school community. I thoroughly enjoyed the conversations I had with students and their parents. I look forward to next week’s Morning Mingle, where our Year 5 students will have their turn to serve some breakfast snacks to their parents.

Yesterday’s Teacher and Staff Appreciation Luncheon, thoughtfully organized by the Friends of Dulwich (FoD), was much appreciated. This year, they expanded the scope of the event, extending an invitation to our bus drivers and monitors to have coffee and donuts in the morning. These thoughtful additions highlight the inclusive spirit of our community.

At lunchtime, the MPR was abuzz with laughter and the enticing scents of a delectable meal. It was a joy to see our dedicated staff gather to savour this special event, understanding that it was a reflection of the profound gratitude our parents and students hold for their hard work. The also featured a display board covered with hand-written messages from students.

FoD volunteers also spent the entire morning on Wednesday handcrafting beautiful corsages to give to staff at the event. It was wonderful to see many teachers and staff proudly wearing their new accessories throughout the day yesterday. We are thankful for FoD’s considerate gesture, and we cannot convey enough how much we value their recognition. My sincere thanks go to FoD Co-Chairs Sunny and Susanna, along with the entire FoD committee for orchestrating this event.

I want to bring your attention to some important access changes at Dulwich College Seoul due to ongoing infrastructure improvements of our local area. Throughout May, the sidewalk from Sinbanpo Station on the school side will be closed, necessitating alternative routes for parents and students. As a result, we will be closing the side DUCKS entrance to the school, and all students will be required to use the main entrance while the works are in progress. We understand that these changes may cause some inconvenience, and we greatly appreciate your cooperation and understanding as we navigate these necessary modifications to ensure the safety of our students, parents and staff.

As we head into the weekend, I am happy to see that the weather forecast is promising, with temperatures expected to reach a pleasant 30 degrees on Sunday. I encourage you all to make the most of this wonderful spring weather and enjoy some time outdoors with your loved ones. Have a fantastic weekend, and I look forward to seeing you back at school on Monday.

With my best wishes,

Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
