Music Items in Assembly (Term 2)
If your child would like to perform in an assembly during this term, please indicate this in this form.
In primary and senior school, we have weekly assemblies, and students are invited to share a musical item. We would like each of these musical items to be thoroughly prepared, so please note the following:
1) Instruments/voice:
– Piano: Students must be able to perform with both hands at the same time.
– Guitar: Students must use a backing track, or accompanist, or play chords and melody at the same time – All other instruments: Backing tracks or piano accompanists must be used if performing on stage. This is up to the student, the child’s instrumental teacher and the parents to arrange and organize. You can find all the information about accompanists at the college in this document here.
2) Please select multiple dates which your child is able to perform. We will try to keep to these times and will confirm the date closer to the time of the performance.
3) If parents wish to come and watch the event, please advise us in advance.
4) Please let me know timely the information about the piece, including:
– Name of piece
– Composer
– Instrument they will be performing on
5) All performers should be able to play their pieces fluently without hesitations and should be checked by parents or instrumental teachers in advance of the assembly.
Many thanks, we look forward to hearing musical performances throughout the term.
Lunar New Year Celebration Year 2024
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Lunar New Year (LNY) is an important festival for our Mandarin department, Chinese families, and many Korean and international families. This year, 2024, is the Year of the Dragon, which will commence on 10 February 2024 and end on 28 January 2025. In Chinese astrology, each zodiac year (rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and pig) is associated with one of five elements: Gold (Metal), Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. Therefore, since the element of Wood represents 2024, it is called a Wood Dragon Year.
We cordially invite you to a special Lunar New Year assembly on Wednesday, 7 February, 2024. The assembly will take place in the Gym from 2pm to 3pm and is a wonderful opportunity to experience the Lunar New Year atmosphere and learn about Chinese culture with our students. Please arrive at the Gym by 1.50pm and be seated by 2pm in the sections designated for parents and friends. We look forward to celebrating with you!
Our assembly will include the following:
Performances from groups of students from Primary to Senior with rhymes, songs, dances, etc.
NON-UNIFORM: To promote the festival spirit, Wednesday, 7 February 2024, is a non-uniform day; we encourage students and staff to wear traditional Chinese or Korean clothes or dress in red clothes for that day. Alternatively, students from other nations that celebrate LNY may wish to wear their traditional attire.
BUSES: If you will attend the assembly and then pick up your child without using the College bus service, please inform the school bus coordinator via the Schools Buddy system before noon on Wednesday, 7 February 2024.
Happy Lunar New Year of the Dragon! Gong Xi Fa Cai! Wishing you a prosperous Year in 2024!

Dulwich College Seoul Guidelines for Drop-off and Pick-up
We kindly ask that our community adhere to the following guidelines to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students, parents and staff.
Dos:
- Follow Staff Directions: Adhere to the instructions of our traffic control staff wearing reflective vests for safety and efficiency.
- Quick and Efficient Drop-off/Pick-up: Limit your stop to the time needed for children to enter or exit the vehicle. Avoid getting out of your car and use the underground car park if you need to stop for more than a minute.
- Prioritize Pedestrians: Always give pedestrians, especially children, the right of way when crossing the street. Drive slowly with caution and be prepared to stop.
- Respect Traffic Rules: Obey all traffic signs and road markings. Do not make illegal turns or ignore yellow lines.
- Help Drivers to Focus: Place your pet at a safe distance from the driver as it could be dangerous if the pet makes any sudden moves.
- Use Alternative Spots for Call Taxis: Avoid rush hour and arrange for pickup away from the school’s main entrance as taxis waiting for passengers often disrupt traffic.
- Be Courteous: Treat other parents, staff, and students with kindness and respect.
Don’ts:
- Don’t Block Traffic: Avoid double parking or stopping in a way that obstructs traffic flow.
- Don’t Use Your Phone: Refrain from using your mobile phone while in the school zone.
- Don’t Park Illegally: Do not park on or near pedestrian crossings and do not leave your car unattended at any time. Fines will be charged by traffic police.
- Don’t Rush: Avoid speeding and hurried maneuvers in the school zone.
- No Hagwon Shuttles Allowed: Hagwon (private academies) shuttle buses are not allowed to stop and pick up students in front of the school. Refrain from having students be picked up by Hagwon shuttles from school.

Our Nonprofit Status and an Update on Strategic Planning
Dulwich College Seoul is a nonprofit that is financially independent from Education in Motion (EiM). We are governed by a Board of Trustees that includes members of EiM including David Fitzgerald, Global Director or Education, International and Leslie Meyer, Chief Education Officer at EiM.
The College is currently working with Ewan McIntosh – a former educator and current strategic consultant under the firm name Notosh – to help facilitate our long-term strategic planning process. Ewan has worked with many schools, including other Dulwich Colleges.
Just before winter break, Ewan and his team from various offices worldwide met with groups of staff, parents and students to get insights into our strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats moving forward. We had reached out to parent reps, Friends of Dulwich and TAP ambassadors to ask for volunteers to meet with them. Other parents in these groups who couldn’t make it but were interested in providing input sent us their thoughts, which we forwarded to Ewan. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you who took the time to speak with Ewan and his team.
This process will eventually lead to a strategic plan whose highlights we will be sharing with the community in the coming months.
