Senior School

What a jam-packed and enriching term it has been. Across the Senior School, there have been countless examples of meaningful learning, personal growth, and community engagement—each reflecting the values we hold dear at Dulwich College Seoul: excellence, resilience, collaboration, and kindness.

The Term 2 Spring Reports have now been published and offer a valuable opportunity to reflect on your child’s progress this term. These reports are designed to highlight both academic achievement and areas for growth, supporting students in becoming reflective, self-motivated learners. We encourage you to review these with your child, celebrate their successes, and discuss goals for the term ahead.

Yesterday’s Termly Celebration Assembly was a wonderful moment to pause, reflect, and recognise the efforts and achievements of our students. Do take a look at the MyDulwich post for more details. We were especially proud to celebrate the 74 students who were invited to the Celebration Party, recognising their hard work, dedication, and consistent commitment to our school community.

This term, we have also focused on enhancing communication between school and home. Thank you to all families who have connected with MyDulwich, and a special thanks to our beta testers and Parent Representatives for their valuable feedback and suggestions. Your insights are helping us refine our approach and better support our community.

Looking ahead, we are pleased to announce the upcoming launch of Classlist, a secure platform to support parent-to-parent communication. More information will be shared next term, and Parent Representatives will play a key role in helping to introduce the platform across year groups.

As we move into Term 3, our attention begins to shift towards supporting our Year 11 and 13 students as they prepare for their final examinations. We know this can be a significant time for students and families alike, and we are committed to providing structured support and guidance to help them succeed.

Please note that from next term, all key updates and information—including Parent Workshops and Events—will be shared via MyDulwich. You will be able to RSVP to events directly from the calendar. If you are having any issues accessing the platform, please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help.

Thank you once again for your continued support, trust, and partnership this term. We wish you and your families a restful and well-deserved break, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back for a purposeful and productive Term 3.

Have a great term break.

Best Regards,

Suzy Pugh

Year 7 European Languages Visit to the French School

This term was full of opportunities to learn about the French culture! On 21 February, the Year 7 European Languages classes got the chance to visit the Lycée français and discover what the life of a French student looks like.

They first observed the maze of classrooms, facilities, and outdoor spaces with a guided tour en français. As they were taken through the school by the Lycée’s fantastic librarians, they used all the vocabulary they had been learning since the beginning of the term to describe what they saw.

Following this, the students were gathered in the senior school library, where they were paired with French-speaking Year 7 students and after introducing themselves teamed up to participate in a quiz about France and sang along to Champs-Élysées, a classic known by generations of French people.

Later, the Dulwich group enjoyed a book hunt in the junior school library. Some of the amazing books that were discovered by the students included classic French comic books like Astérix and some gripping French novels.

After saying goodbye to our hosts, the students were challenged with finding as many French words as they could displayed in shops and signs of the French Village. Did you know that “valet” is a French word?

Overall, it was an incredible experience, but who better than the students themselves to tell you how they felt?

“(The Lycée) is small but the space they have is well-used” – Alex Song

“I thought the activities were surprisingly fun and I liked walking through the French village” – Caitlin K

“I liked the song a lot, I think it is a great song and it also helps me with my French a bit” – Catherine L

“I think they were very friendly and we talked about what they like or not. It was a very good time.” – Riho S

“(The students at the Lycée) are basically just us but they can speak French” – Ben J

“They also like football, had similar favorite classes” – Weng-Yat K

“I really enjoyed talking to the students, they were extremely nice, and the quiz was very entertaining and interesting!” – Jin C

“I didn’t know that I could have a small conversation in French.” – Hana S

“I would really like to do one more French trip.” – Karl M

“The French students should come to our school for a visit next time.” – Emilia T

Mathematics update for Spring Term

This term has been filled with both curriculum and beyond learning in mathematics. We have seen Year 7 to Year 10 taking part in their second investigation week of the academic year. Year 7 and Year 8 have learned about fractals and contributed towards building a Dulwich Sierpinski tetrahedron, whilst Year 9 and Year 10 have investigated the ancient methods that have contributed towards modern understanding and calculations of pi.

Over the past few weeks, Year 12 have showcased their principled and inquirer attributes as they have begun their first Internal Assessment. Students have been conducting research and performing their own mathematical investigations, their first taste of extensive and summative projects at IB level. Students will be finishing their work throughout the spring break ready to be submitted at the start of term 3.

The closing of Term 2 sees the end of learning journeys for Year 11 and Year 13. As we finish up the curriculum in the final lessons, students are now focusing their attention on reviewing old material and revision ready for the final exams that begin in April. A huge well done to both year groups for their efforts so far, and an encouraging reminder that ‘the only way to get better at maths is by doing maths’ – use your spring break wisely!

The mathematics department would also like to say a huge congratulations to the HSTM team who represented us in Suzhou for the High School Mathematics competition. Our team won first place! Well done for such an excellent result, and for representing DCSL with integrity. The students involved were; Kunho J, Jioh C, William C, Lucas S, Daniel S, Eliana P, Grace K, Ian H, Oliver C, Aadya G, Milva T.

Congratulations to the following students who earned the Mathematician of the Month award for their contributions to mathematics in February.

Nishika S – For showing huge improvements in her academic results – the hard work is really paying off! (Ms Im)

Julia Y – For proactively entering the International Youth Math Challenge and for exceptional mathematical communication in her solutions (Ms Chamberlain)

Jun Y – For working really hard and making a conscious effort to reflect and improve on his work (Mr Denning)

Eugene K – For achieving the highest score in the IMC in the entire school, despite only being in year 8 (Mr Okeowo)

Aaron L – For a creative approach to ratio (rapids!) (Miss Heap)

Millie B – For such fantastic effort and enthusiasm for mathematics, her attitude can really influence the rest of the class (Mr Fitzgibbon)

Congratulations to the following students who earned the Mathematician of the Month award for their contributions to mathematics in March.

Hano C – For showing dedication to revision and making huge personal progress in academic results (Ms Im)

Brenda K – For trying to statistically prove once and for all that LG Twins are better than the Doosan Bears (Ms Chamberlain)

Huidong K – For being a risk taker in class and developing his communication skills by contributing more to class discussion (Mr Denning)

Madison Y – For being a superstar mathematician this month (Mr Okeowo)

Nicole Z – For a truly incredible zine story with a very interesting interpretation of ratio! (Miss Heap)

Ray Y – For making great improvement with extension material, and challenging herself more and more inside of class and at home (Mr Fitzgibbon)

This a reminder that every person who wins a Mathematician of the month award receives 5 merits!

SSAEM Peer Mentoring

The Year 12 and Year 13 students are re-introducing the new SSAEM peer mentoring program for this term!

‘SSAEM’, which roughly translates to ‘tutor’ in Korean vernacular, is designed to help younger students (Year 7 to Year 11) with academics and other things relating to the senior school. It can be a great way to gain insight into IB students’ perspectives on school and also to discuss topics that are more suitable for a mature student body.

Mentees will be joined up as either single sessions (one mentor and one mentee) or double sessions (one mentor and two mentees), depending on the mentees’ choices. Scheduling for meetings will happen individually via email between the mentors and the mentees, which can happen anytime from lunchtime to 4.30pm after school.

For students wishing to become mentees for this term, please fill out this form.

We look forward to seeing more students sign up!
