Senior School

Dear Parents,

The basketball season is off to a great start, with our teams securing two winning home games this week! Their determination and teamwork exemplify our commitment to excellence and sportsmanship. Read the match overview below for all the details.

Our students have returned from the Worldwise Festival of Music hosted by Dulwich College Beijing, bursting with enthusiasm and stories of their inspiring experience. The students from across the Senior School embraced diversity through collaboration with musicians from across the region, and their growth as performers reflects the creativity and passion we celebrate at Dulwich.

The House video game night was a huge success, bringing healthy competition and plenty of fun to our community. Events like these showcase the power of our House system in building connections and fostering a sense of belonging among students.

Our talented mathematicians participated in the UKMT Olympiad, a challenging competition that tests even the most dedicated problem-solvers. The student’s commitment to pushing their limits exemplifies excellence and perseverance. We wish them all the best as they continue to represent our school with pride.

Introducing Our Head Students

Student leadership is a cornerstone of developing active global citizens at Dulwich. All candidates for the leadership positions displayed exceptional passion, drive, and a strong commitment to enhancing the student experience at Dulwich College Seoul, and we thank them for their applications.

We are delighted to introduce this year’s Head Students: Evelyn K (Diversity), Jaewook K (Excellence), Jane L (Community) and Kamil H (Sustainability). The appointed students have consistently demonstrated our community values and are eager to collaborate with the current Head Students to ensure a seamless transition into the new Student Leadership Team and represent the student voice of Dulwich College Seoul.

Student voice is vital to shaping our school’s culture. Our Head Students, along with the newly appointed House leadership team, will work to inspire their peers, lead initiatives, and foster a school environment that celebrates collaboration, creativity, and kindness. This is a role that not only empowers students to make a difference in their school community but also prepares them for future leadership opportunities on a global stage.

Students in Years 8, 9, and 12 are actively preparing for their Adventurous Journeys taking place in January. These residential programmes offer invaluable opportunities for students to develop resilience, independence, and teamwork skills while immersing themselves in new and challenging environments. They are designed to foster personal growth, leadership, and a deeper connection with peers, reflecting our commitment to building well-rounded global citizens.

To ensure a successful and enjoyable experience, please make use of the provided resources to check that you have the correct kit. If you have any questions or need further clarification, do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to supporting your child through this exciting and transformative experience.

Focus on Social Media for Middle School Students

A reminder to all families that the legal age for using social media platforms is 13, and even at this age, its use should be approached with caution. As part of our commitment to student well-being, we will be hosting a panel discussion in January about the use of social media with teenagers. More details will follow, and we encourage all parents to attend.

On Saturday, we were proud to host the YTC exam, providing students with a platform to challenge themselves academically and reflect on their learning journey.

Varsity Basketball Games vs. ICSP

A winning start to the season!

Both the boys’ and girls’ varsity basketball teams faced tough challenges against ICSP in our first home game of the season, but managed to secure victory in two closely contested game on Wednesday 20 November 2024

Girls: A Close Two-Point Victory

The girls’ game was competitive, with both teams evenly matched. The DCSL Leopards did pull away to an 11-point lead. With a player rotation, ICSP stayed in the game and got the score back to within 1 basket, but strong defensive efforts and key rebounds from our girls allowed them to stay in the contest. They held on to their lead as the clock ran out, finishing as winners.

Boys: A Narrow Three-Point Win

The boys’ game followed a similar pattern, with both teams trading baskets for much of the match. ICSP applied pressure in the final quarter, but clever use of the clock and solid teamwork helped the boys maintain their edge.

The result demonstrated both team’s ability to handle pressure and show focus and determination. What a great start to the season. Thank you to the coaches….

Well done to all and we look forward to Fridays game away at KKFS.

Year 8 cooking up a storm

Since the beginning of the academic year, one class of Year 8 students, 8R1, has been learning all about nutrition. Last week signalled the end of their 10-week rotation, and to celebrate this they headed to the cooking classroom to put some of what they had learned into practice. Here they worked together to produce a healthy and delicious Mediterranean pasta dish.

Bon appetit, Year 8R1!

SSAEM Peer Mentoring

The Year 12 and Year 13 students are re-introducing the new SSAEM peer mentoring program for this term!

‘SSAEM’, which roughly translates to ‘tutor’ in Korean vernacular, is designed to help younger students (Year 7 to Year 11) with academics and other things relating to the senior school. It can be a great way to gain insight into IB students’ perspectives on school and also to discuss topics that are more suitable for a mature student body.

Mentees will be joined up as either single sessions (one mentor and one mentee) or double sessions (one mentor and two mentees), depending on the mentees’ choices. Scheduling for meetings will happen individually via email between the mentors and the mentees, which can happen anytime from lunchtime to 4.30pm after school.

For students wishing to become mentees for this term, please fill out this form.

We look forward to seeing more students sign up!
