Senior School

Message from the Head of Senior School

There are so many positive aspects to being part of a family of schools. This week, I virtually attended the EiM Head of Senior School conference, held in Shanghai. It has been useful to reflect on and celebrate our progress on strategic priorities throughout the year and set our group-wide priorities for next year.

The Year 12s have been forging their own connections with each other and the Namhae community. The service element of the Year 12 experience is so rich and helps the students to expand their knowledge of other people; cultures, needs, and challenges. The Year 10s are finalising their bag packing and getting their wet shoes ready.

Year 12 parents: Your children have their schedules for the Student-Teacher Conferences. This will offer an opportunity for richer conversations in your UCC family conversations.

The Olympiad is building momentum, thank you for your expressions of interest. We will be sharing initial numbers with the organising committee in Singapore and confirmations will happen in September. The Olympiad is also for parents so please save the dates. Information will be heading your way.

I am so excited about my first Founder’s Day tomorrow, the sun will shine and the refreshments will be splendid! I have my hat ready, make sure you have your cupcakes and card entries for the competitions.

See you all in the morning!

Seacole House event success earned a day to celebrate House Spirit.

The Year 7s, 8s, and 9s all participated in an exciting Problem-Solving Quiz including maths puzzles, riddles, dingbats, and foreign languages during Tutor Time. Seacole pipped Sejong to the win scoring an impressive 120 out of 150 and earned a House Spirit non-uniform day for the Senior School!

Dulwich Olympiad 2024

We are now planning for the Dulwich Olympiad 2024. This extraordinary event, scheduled for March 2024, will be hosted by our sibling school, Dulwich College (Singapore). It follows in the footsteps of the highly successful Olympiads held in Beijing in 2015 and London in 2019. The upcoming Olympiad is particularly special, marking the 10th and 20th anniversaries of Dulwich College (Singapore) and Dulwich College International, respectively. This grand celebration of art, drama, dance, music and sport will bring together students from across our Dulwich family who have demonstrated exceptional commitment and engagement in these areas. Scheduled for 18-22 March 2024, the Olympiad promises to be an event filled with workshops, performances and competitions, all culminating in a spectacular closing ceremony. Beyond the main events, there will also be a wonderful array of cultural and social activities that will further enhance the overall experience. This unique and special event presents an invaluable opportunity for our students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 11 to expand their horizons, learn new skills, and form lasting friendships. To ensure fair representation, our selection process will take into account a combination of factors such as academic achievements, commitment, teamwork capabilities, and passion for the subject matter. This will ensure that all students have a fair opportunity to be a part of the Dulwich Olympiad 2024. Parents of eligible students will have received an email with more details and a link to register their interest. Our fair and thorough selection process will ensure that all students have the chance to participate in this fantastic event.

Humanities Showcase

In Humanities, students have completed a variety of topics throughout the year within Geography, History and Economics. Initially, they completed compulsory topics on Factfulness in Geography, The Holocaust in History and An Introduction to Economics. Following this, students chose four separate topics that interested them the most ranging from: Astrogeography, The Miracle on the Han, The Tudors, Our Frozen Planet and Equality for women throughout History, to name a few! This curriculum has enabled students to have more autonomy over their learning, create a chance for exposure to the different Humanities topics to support with subject choices at IGCSE, and promote curiosities and interests in these subject areas. The outcome of the year is an exhibition including a report and an exhibit to visually represent their learning on one of the topics they found particularly interesting. The exhibition will be held on 16 June, with students presenting their reports and exhibits to parents, teachers, and the wider DCSL community.
