Senior School

Student agency is fundamental to fostering a sense of belonging, and the Student Council plays a vital role in ensuring student voices are heard. This week, Student Council assemblies highlighted completed initiatives—such as updated uniform options, social media support for Middle School students, and social activities—while also sharing progress on upcoming projects, including a games room for breaktimes and new travelling kits for sports teams. We look forward to seeing these efforts come to life, reinforcing our values of community and student leadership.

FOBISIA sports preparation is well underway, with lunchtime training sessions helping students refine their skills and strengthen their team spirit. We wish all our athletes the best as they continue to train with dedication and resilience.

A huge thank you to our Head Students and Student Ambassadors, who spoke with Year 5 and Year 6 parents on Wednesday night as part of our transition series. Their reflections on their own experiences provided valuable insight into the journey into Senior School and exemplified the leadership and responsibility we aim to nurture in our students.

This week’s World of Humanities parent workshop offered a fascinating insight into the humanities curriculum, its real-world applications, and the pathways available to students. Thank you to all who attended and engaged in the discussion.

Looking ahead, next week we welcome parent representatives for our monthly meeting—please share any thoughts or questions with your reps. On Monday, Year 11 and Year 13 students and parents will engage in important discussions during the Mock Exam Feedback PTSC, reinforcing the commitment and focus needed for the final stretch before exams.

Another fabulous ski day saw students learning from expert instructors, embracing challenges, and finding joy in the experience. Meanwhile, the Book Fair was a huge success, with students across all year groups engaging with a fantastic selection of books—thank you to everyone who supported this event and helped foster a love of reading.

Next week, we begin the options process for Year 9 as they start considering their IGCSE choices and for Year 11 as they explore their IBDP pathway. The Options Fairs on Wednesday will be supported by parent information sessions—please see the timeline below for details.

We also wish the Varsity Football teams the best of luck as they play their first matches on Friday and Saturday. Their hard work and determination in training will no doubt shine through on the pitch.

We are also excited for the High School Prom tonight—a wonderful opportunity for our students to celebrate together, connect with friends, and enjoy an evening of music and memories. Events like these strengthen our sense of community and provide a well-deserved moment of joy and relaxation, particularly after the intensity of mock exams. A huge thank you to the staff and student organisers who have worked hard to make this event special. We look forward to seeing our students enjoy a fantastic evening!

Finally, a reminder to check your emails for details on the school photographs taking place the weekend of 24 February, and we look forward to connecting with Year 7 – Year 10 parents during the online PTSC on Wednesday.

Have a great week

Warm regards,

Suzanne Pugh

Year 7 & Year 8 Ski Trip – by Social Media Club ECA Students

We went on a ski trip last week! Our day started early at 6.30am, and by 7am, we were on the bus heading to Phoenix Ski Resort. When we arrived, everyone got ready to hit the slopes.

After about two hours of skiing, we enjoyed a scrumptious lunch before heading back out for more fun on the slopes. After a long, fun-filled day of skiing, it was time to return to Seoul and get some well-earned rest!

Even though parents were worried about the freezing temperatures, we didn’t think it was too bad—except when we got on the ski lift! The teachers were very enthusiastic about helping us develop our skills, and our coaches were incredibly supportive, guiding us to success and helping us improve.

We all had a magnificent time skiing, and we are so grateful to White Tree Snow School!

Valentine’s Day is here!by Social Media ECA Club

For Valentine’s Day, two of our Year 12 students organized a Valentine’s Day charity sale for the Senior School. They sent a form to all Senior School students, giving them the option to buy chocolates or a rose for their friends or partners. The organizing committee then hand-delivered the chocolates and roses to the recipient, either anonymously or with the sender’s name attached. If requested, the committee also wrote a thoughtful card on behalf of the sender.

Enjoy the photos of our community celebrating and wishing everyone a happy Valentine’s Day!

SSAEM Peer Mentoring

The Year 12 and Year 13 students are re-introducing the new SSAEM peer mentoring program for this term!

‘SSAEM’, which roughly translates to ‘tutor’ in Korean vernacular, is designed to help younger students (Year 7 to Year 11) with academics and other things relating to the senior school. It can be a great way to gain insight into IB students’ perspectives on school and also to discuss topics that are more suitable for a mature student body.

Mentees will be joined up as either single sessions (one mentor and one mentee) or double sessions (one mentor and two mentees), depending on the mentees’ choices. Scheduling for meetings will happen individually via email between the mentors and the mentees, which can happen anytime from lunchtime to 4.30pm after school.

For students wishing to become mentees for this term, please fill out this form.

We look forward to seeing more students sign up!
