Senior School

What a Fabulous End to a Great Term!

This week has been a wonderful conclusion to an exceptional term. Festive Spirit Week allowed students to showcase their creative and festive flair, bringing colour and joy to the school. The High School Secret Santa Gift Swap was an idea presented by Erin Park (10S). We felt it would be a fun way to bring the High School community together. Participating students were tasked with preparing a small gift for a randomly assigned members of their year group. There were a variety of different reactions on Thursday and Friday as students were oblivious to who prepared their gifts.   A big thank you to the High School Student Council for leading this initiative and making it such a success.

The House pantomimes truly stole the show, offering laughter, teamwork, and a healthy dose of House competition! It was a fantastic way to wrap up the term with the spirit of collaboration and fun.

It is important to celebrate the end of term, and on Thursday, students with 100% attendance and the highest merits enjoyed their well-earned pizza treat. Meanwhile, the kitchen has been filled with the aroma of cultural delicacies as Spanish and Korean instructions wafted through the corridors, enticing the IBDP English students completing their mock IOPs.

As we wind down with tutor parties, we also say farewell to community members embarking on new journeys. A huge thank you to Michael Donkin and Ffiona Wilkinson for their commitment and excellent teaching as their maternity covers come to an end. Similarly, we extend our gratitude to Gemma Fullagar, who has worked tirelessly as Pastoral Head of Middle School, and who now passes the mantel to Aine Staunton, returning to the role from maternity leave. We also welcome back Antonia Snower to the Economics and Humanities Team.

Finally, the End of Year Celebration Assembly gave us the opportunity to reflect on all the learning, enrichment, and achievements this term. It was a privilege to celebrate the successes of our students, and the outstanding contributions made across all areas of school life. Please check out our Term 1 compilation video.

Message of kindness. This has been a long term and we are all ready for a break. Use the festive opportunity and new year to set those new year’s resolution and put aside conflict or disagreements.

Thank you for your continued support throughout this term. We wish you all a restful and joyous holiday season and look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

Year 13 Spanish Masterchef

The Year 13 Spanish Ab initio and B classes were gathered on Wednesday for a Masterchef competition en español!

The groups were tasked with creating a set of tacos garnished according to their choice, accompanied by pico de gallo and guacamole sauces. They were given the instructions in Spanish and were able to communicate in the target language throughout the lesson.

The dishes were then judged for presentation and taste by Mr Wise and Mrs Boinot.

Congratulations to the winning team, composed of Amirtha, Diana, Claudia and Daniel who impressed the judges with their great flavours and good presentation!

Year 10 Spanish Conjugator

We all know how conjugations in Spanish can be hard to remember and who hasn’t had a hard time trying to say those irregular verbs correctly?

Gurutva Galav and Arav Shete, from the Year 10 Spanish class decided to create their very own Spanish conjugator in their own time, using their skills in both Spanish and Computer Science. The principle is simple, you enter the verb you want to conjugate, define your subject and choose which tense you want. Not only can you find regular verbs, but some of the most common irregular verbs have been included as well.

A great demonstration of initiative, creativity and perseverance from both of them, well done!

Here is a demonstration of the conjugator:

Jane L (Year 12) For showing determination in her studies and scoring 100% on the unit test! (Ms Im)

Karl M (Year 7) For his continuous determination and positive attitude whilst working through difficult algebra. He’s also demonstrated great collaborative skills! (Mr Okeowo)

James K (Year 12) – For taking advice on board regarding examination technique, and putting it to good use (Ms Chamberlain)

SSAEM Peer Mentoring

The Year 12 and Year 13 students are re-introducing the new SSAEM peer mentoring program for this term!

‘SSAEM’, which roughly translates to ‘tutor’ in Korean vernacular, is designed to help younger students (Year 7 to Year 11) with academics and other things relating to the senior school. It can be a great way to gain insight into IB students’ perspectives on school and also to discuss topics that are more suitable for a mature student body.

Mentees will be joined up as either single sessions (one mentor and one mentee) or double sessions (one mentor and two mentees), depending on the mentees’ choices. Scheduling for meetings will happen individually via email between the mentors and the mentees, which can happen anytime from lunchtime to 4.30pm after school.

For students wishing to become mentees for this term, please fill out this form.

We look forward to seeing more students sign up!
