Primary School

Dear Primary Families,

New Parent Coffee Morning:

Many thanks to the new staff and established Dulwich families who joined us for the Welcome Coffee event today. The FoD had their new DCSL parent t-shirts for sale, Quadra baked trays of their famous sausage rolls (both vegan and meat varieties) and the coffee and chat were flowing. Parents (old and new) greatly appreciated the opportunity to stock up on gently used uniform at bargain prices, supporting our eco-aims.

FoD Instagram:

Please follow our Friends of Dulwich on Instagram to keep fully up to date on their many projects and events. Find them at dcsl.fod

Assemblies This Week:

Year 1-3’s assembly was led by Ms Goddard and was based on our JIGSAW, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) programme. Find more details in the Parent Handbook on page 81.

Year 2 Year 6 had an assembly with a difference – a DCSL staff Cinderella Pantomime instead! If you aren’t familiar with a Pantomime, it’s a theatrical performance by adults for children that includes slapstick comedy, rowdy audience interactions and it’s usually based on a traditional European fairy tale. Mr Kelly (Year 2) was Cinders, Ms Varley (Reception) was the Prince, and many other staff took leading roles in this manic musical adventure.

Primary School Student Council Elections:

The new student representatives for each class have been elected by their peers and had their first meeting today with Ms Goddard.

Huge thanks to our departing Student Councillors who have represented their classes so very well in Term 1.

Dulwich Drop – Grand Official Opening on Monday:

Send a Postcard Contest  – deadline for posted cards is the end of January!

As Global Citizens, we are always interested in other peoples, their travels and cultures. To help others learn and to help your child communicate their reflections, please send Mrs Smith and the Primary School a postcard. No matter where you’re travelling to, sending postcard would be a great activity for your child (finding, choosing, planning out the message then writing in cursive perhaps, accurately addressing and posting the card with the correct stamp on it).

The class which sends the most postcards by the end of January wins the right to multiple rides on the Dulwich Drop and an icecream treat. Our address is:

Mystery Solved: Year 3’s Amazing Autumn Hike Discovery

During the autumn hike, Sunwoo in 3R stumbled upon a mysterious object, igniting a wave of curiosity and speculation among his Year 3 classmates. The find sparked a flurry of discussions and imaginative theories, ranging from tree bark to snakeskin. Eager to uncover the truth, Ms Ramsden engaged the skills of Miss McShannon and Ms Fullagar from the science department who, together with the children, explored a variety of possibilities. In fact, everyone was so curious that we even asked the parents at the Year 3 celebration of learning in December!

The mystery was finally solved this week as the Year 3 students were invited to the senior school’s science lab to use Light Microscopes. This hands-on investigation, aligned with their studies on light, led to a remarkable revelation: the peculiar item was likely a piece of dried-up honeycomb! The science team were highly impressed by Year 3’s inquisitive nature, excellent thinking skills, and good communication. This discovery not only highlighted these attributes but also provided the students with an unforgettable educational adventure, underscoring the excitement of exploration and scientific discovery.
