Sunday’s Family Hike:

We had great weather, great company and good snacks for the hike – a real recipe for success on a gorgeous autumn day. Joining us were families who were new to Seul, some were new to hiking and others were seasoned in both regards! The trail we chose was walking east of Suseo Station (line 3) on the Seoul Trail. With Mr Smith leading the hikers and Mrs Smith bringing up the rear, we covered the 8km or 10km with ease and smiles to spare! Thank you all who joined us. Look out for our next Family Hike in the spring!

Here’s the route for the Family Hike: 03.Seoul Trail Courses – Seoul Metropolitan Government

or

Seoul Trail Course 4: Daemosan – Umyeonsan/서울 둘레길 4코스 대모산 – 우면산코스 (South Korea) | Fastest Known Time

Menu for lunches and snacks:

Our students are great eaters and really enjoy the 8-10 separate offerings each lunchtime from salad, meat dishes, rice or pasta, fruit, raw veggies, and vegetarian options too. Find out what’s being served next week below.

Please find here the menu for the month.

Year 4 Visit from SNUE Elementary School

On Thursday, Year 4 welcomed our VIP guest class of children from The Elementary School affiliated with the Seoul National Education University. They arrived just before the end of our lunchtime, so Ms Wayte took them to the rope course playground on the roof of the swimming pool building, which they really enjoyed. Then, 4W met our visitors in the school reception and we split into two groups to take a tour of our college campus; proudly showing off our Enquiry Hub, the field where they play, the sports hall, the auditorium, the music rooms, the Mandarin classroom, the Year 3 terrace, we even introduced them to the guinea pigs, Doodle the hedgehog, the turtles and the fish! After the tour, we showed them the Year 4 classrooms and the visiting class split into three groups to spend some time with one of the three Year 4 classes. 4R showed the visitors their Silk Road projects, 4G did a fun maths activity, and 4W played some fun ‘get-to-know-you’ activities. Luckily, we managed to save enough time for our guests to have a go on the famous Dulwich Drop – which was a fun surprise, before we said goodbye, and they had to get on the bus to return to their school.

Year 4 Trip to National Folk Village

Today, Year 4 had a fantastic day at the Yongin Korean National Folk Village. We took two buses full of excited children, parent volunteers and staff! When we arrived, we walked to the clay workshop where we made some traditional Korean pots. Then, we enjoyed a lively performance of traditional dancing. By the end of the show, we were all feeling very hungry, so we made our way over to the cafeteria, where we all enjoyed a bi-bim-bap and some Korean pancakes – delicious! After lunch, we walked among many traditional Hanok homes, looking at the various types of buildings and roofs. We looked at the old-style school buildings and pharmacy, we also searched for interesting information and sights in a scavenger hunt, and finally, made some sketches of a Hanok house. After a fun and educational day at the Hanok village, we got back on the busses and some of us even had a snooze on the journey home! Thank you to Ms Lee, who organised a fantastic cultural, historical experience for our Year 4 children.

We need your help for Dulwich Ducklings!

Sophie Cran, our amazing DUCKLINGs parent who set up this lovely and really important programme is ready to hand it on to another DCSL parent in the coming months. It’s perfect for a parent who is free on Wednesday morning – having your own baby/toddler to take along is entirely optional! If you would like to take over the group, chat to Sophie about how it works and confirm with Mrs Smith if you are interested.

In short, the lead person for Dulwich DUCKLINGs would set up the MPR (F1) with the toys and equipment (all provided), welcome attendees and encourage everyone to connect and have some relaxed fun. Then at the end of the session tidy away. There’s lots of friendly support from school and huge appreciation for bringing our youngest siblings together to play.

I hope this message finds you well. I am writing to share exciting updates regarding the adventure residential trips, where students will experience unique outdoor learning and gain valuable skills in resilience, teamwork, and personal growth.

In partnership with Asia Pacific Adventure, our trusted outdoor education provider based in Hong Kong, we have updated the trip dates to enhance the experience for each year group. Please see the revised schedule below:

  • Year 6: February 24th – 28th, Hong Kong
  • Year 4: April 16th – 18th, Chuncheon, Korea
  • Year 3: April 16th – 18th, Chuncheon, Korea
  • Year 2: April 17th – 18th, Dulwich College Seoul

We’re delighted to continue working with Asia Pacific Adventure, who ran our September Adventurous Journeys for Year 5 and Year 7 in Korea, as well as the Year 10 program in Mongolia. Their expertise and dedication have made a significant impact on our students’ experiences, and we’re confident that each year group will have a similarly enriching journey. Mr Bonnet and Mr Lovett will soon be heading to Hong Kong to further develop the Year 6 Adventurous Journey. Please keep an eye out for the Year 6 Parent Information session invitation which will take place in December.

We will share more details in the coming weeks, including activity outlines, packing lists, and travel logistics. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to mark.lovett@dulwich-seoul.kr

Thank you for your support in making these experiences possible for our students. We look forward to these incredible adventures!

Audition for Lunar New Year Assembly MCs

We are excited to announce that our Lunar New Year Assembly will be held on January 24, 2025. Therefore, we are planning to offer an audition for choosing MCs (Masters of Ceremonies) for the assembly. All students from Year 5 to Year 12 with an interest in being an MC are welcome to participate, regardless of Chinese language fluency. Please note that the MCs do not need to be super fluent in Chinese to the audition, but they should be prepared to dedicate some of their free time or a few break times for rehearsals before the event.

Audition Times:

  • Primary: November 21 & November 28, Thursday, 11.45am. – 12.15pm.
  • Senior:   November 21 & November 28 , Thursday,  1pm. – 1.30pm.

Location:  Mandarin classroom 304A

Audition Details: To help the candidates prepare, we have sent samples of a few lines in the Mandarin class Teams for students to memorize and present at the audition. We encourage the students to challenge themselves, even if they feel outside of their comfort zone. Skipping difficult parts is fine, but we are looking forward to seeing more people to involved in the events.

Please fill up the survey if your child is willing to attend the audition. The survey link will be shared with your child’s Mandarin teacher or you can fill up from this link. Please sign up with your child’s school email address.
