Dear Primary Families,

Year 3 and Year 6 aced their skiing lessons this week, with the instructors reporting that our students were some of the most determined learners they had meet! Being risk-takers is part of the DNA of a Dulwich student, as is supporting friends through learning too – both were very evident on the slopes this week. We were proud!

School Photos this Term: Please check your email for details of the school photographer’s visit to take class, individual and sibling shots. Please note the full winter uniform requirements for all students.
Mrs Smith Goes to Singapore:
I am off to Dulwich College Singapore next week in order to assist Year 3 – Year 6 with a quality assurance review of teaching and learning in the Junior School. It’s always a pleasure to visit our ‘sister schools’, to share ideas and give ‘critical friend’ feedback to help them improve further.
In March, we in turn will welcome a group of leaders from Dulwich College Singapore who will assist us with our next steps in improvement – we don’t “rest on our laurels” at Dulwich College Seoul! You will be asked to be part of that process too – we would love to have some parents meet with the visiting team to share their insights into life and learning at our school. Please do consider volunteering!

Golden Coat Hanger Award: Are Students “Dressed for Success?”
Each week, this prestigious award is given to the class in a Year Group who has shown the greatest effort and attention to detail in dressing smartly and being well prepped for school. Are our black shoes shining; are shirts crisply tucked in, and are our ties snugly at our top buttons?
Year 3: 3S
Year 4: 4G
Year 5: 5M
Year 6: 6B

Some Highlights this Week:
Year 1 have been investigating ice and melting (states of matter in science). This week they conducted experiments to see how to get ice to melt quickly – would hairdryer, salt, sand or even sugar works best? They were developing a broad range of vocabulary and using a simple scientific method with confidence!

In Year 2 students have been continuing their work on arrays and multiplication and took another step forward with divining and fractions. At this early stage, much of this work is with practical materials which they manipulate so they can build a conceptual understanding of this process, before moving onto the more abstract written methods.
Year 3 have leapt into a dark/light science topic through a beautiful picture book which also throws up interesting discussion points on power and authority – should the king ban the dark?

WISE25 Women’s Leadership Conference 21-23 February
Dulwich College Seoul is very proud to host the WISE women’s leadership conference next week. Over 160 educators, leaders and advisors from 16 countries will attend workshops across Saturday and Sunday. This provides our teachers and middle leaders with outstanding professional development opportunities and helps Dulwich Seoul network across other top international schools. We want to be an employer of choice in Asia so we attract the best talent for our students, and leading events such as these helps us put Dulwich on the map (again).
Year 5/Year 6 Parents’ Cheese and Wine Evening:

On Wednesday we welcomed Junior School parents into the IB Centre (4F) on for an informal information evening all about middle school and high school at Dulwich College Seoul. Our Head Students from Year 12 spoke eloquently about their own experience, and Year 8-10 students were on hand to answer Primary parents’ questions as well.

Book Fair

Our students really enjoyed browsing through the hundreds of colourful titles at this term’s book fair. Thank you to the families who gave their child the chance to pick out books of their own, their own choice and to follow their own interests – it’s one of life’s great pleasures and an important part of being a reader! Titles chosen by Primary ranged from K-novels, science fiction, the classics such as Black Beauty and Little Women, to graphic novels and beginner’s guides to dinosaurs, sealife and economics!

Year 4’s Creative Journey Inspired by Baek Hee Na
This term, our Year 4 students have been exploring the enchanting world of storytelling through the works of award-winning author Baek Hee Na, recipient of the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award. Inspired by her beautifully crafted story Cotton Candies, students delved into her imaginative storytelling and intricate set designs. Channeling their creativity, they designed their own unique sets and brought their stories to life with original ideas. Through this hands-on experience, they not only honed their artistic and narrative skills but also developed a deeper appreciation for visual storytelling. Well done, Year 4!
Creativity Beyond the Art Room!

At our school, creativity doesn’t stop in the art room—it continues beyond the classroom and into everyday moments! During break time, Year 5 students Evelyn and Celine showed their artistic flair by building a delightful snowman while playing on the field. Their creativity and teamwork turned a simple winter day into a magical one. Well done, Evelyn and Celine, for bringing art to life in the great outdoors!
