Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last night I was in awe of our students during their second and final performance of How To Be An Honest Thief. The cast was simply brilliant – the comic timing, movement, diction, physicality and surrealism was a pleasure to behold. Congratulations to our Co-Directors, Matthew Readman and Eleanor S and our cast of 29 Senior School students for their stellar performance. The adaptation and localization of Charandas Chor by Habib Tanvir was a stroke of genius. A fantastic effort in bringing our community together with a full auditorium!
Our students and staff celebrated International Women’s Day (IWD) this week by wearing purple, pink, or blue to recognize and celebrate women’s achievements in our community and around the world. They also engaged in thought-provoking class-based activities and discussions that highlighted the importance of this day.
Money raised through donations will go to the Korean Unwed Mothers Families’ Association (KUMFA), our chosen charity for IWD this year. KUMFA advocates for the rights of unwed mothers and their children in Korea. It seeks to enable Korean women to have sufficient resources and support to keep their babies so that mother and child can thrive in Korean society.
Yesterday, Chef Ryan Phillips from Bear Foot Gardens paid us a special visit to help us officially open the DUCKS Rainbow Kitchen. After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Chef Ryan worked with our young cooking apprentices to make a delicious Mexican dish called chicken sope. The session highlighted the importance of reducing food waste and eating sustainably to combat climate change, in line with Dulwich values. We extend our thanks to Chef Ryan for his expertise and enthusiasm in launching our Rainbow Kitchen.
It was a pleasure to host members of the Dulwich College Singapore (DCSG) College Leadership Team and Education in Motion (EiM) this week as part of our quality assurance initiative. Their visit provided us with valuable feedback and insights that we will carefully consider for the future. We appreciated their contributions and look forward to visiting the Dulwich College Singapore campus in the next few months under the same initiative. Thank you to our colleagues from DCSG and EiM for a successful visit.
At Dulwich, we believe that the feedback and opinions of our community are integral to our growth and success. As such, we will be sending out our annual Dulwich Experience Parent Survey to all parents next week. Your candid feedback is crucial in helping us identify areas of strength and opportunities for improvement in our educational programs and services. The survey is part of a Dulwich family-wide initiative that includes parents, students Year 3 and up, and all staff. EiM and the College Leadership Team review and analyse the results, whose highlights will be shared with all respondents and help inform our planning moving forward.
The survey is anonymous and untraceable. We strongly encourage all parents to participate in the survey as their valuable input will enable us to continue providing the best possible educational experience for our students. We appreciate your participation and support in this important initiative.
We would like to provide an update on the donation drive for KUMFA and the Türkiye/Syria earthquake relief. Midway during the drive, we received the unfortunate news that the trade association collecting the items for the Türkiye earthquake relief drive is no longer accepting donated items, except for brand new tents and blankets. As a result, we regret to say we won’t be able to send the collected items to Türkiye.
While we are disappointed at this unexpected turn of events, we would like to assure you that we appreciate and value your contributions. In light of this development, we will be donating the collected items to KUMFA, the unwed mothers’ charity in Korea, with the exception of men’s clothing and other items that they do not accept. These items will be donated to Beautiful Store, which is similar to Goodwill and resells items for charity.
We are grateful for your generosity and willingness to contribute to these causes. Your donations will make a positive difference in our community and beyond. Thank you for your support.
With my best wishes,
Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
Head of College
