From our Head of College

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Despite the snow and plummeting temperatures making outdoor activities and travel a bit more challenging this week, our Year 7 and Year 8 students from the Senior School, along with Years 4 and Year 5 in the Primary School, enthusiastically headed out for their ski trips. My sincere thanks to Mr Lovett and supporting staff members for overseeing all the logistics—from early-morning departures to safe returns each evening—while ensuring our students had plenty of fun on the slopes.

This morning, we held our first meeting to begin planning for Dulwich College Seoul’s 15th anniversary celebrations. It was inspiring to see such enthusiasm from parents, staff, alumni, student leaders, and school leadership as we explored ideas to honour our community’s journey over the past 15 years. A key theme emerged—connections—and we look forward to celebrating the relationships that have shaped our school. Thank you to all who participated and contributed your ideas. We will share more details as plans take shape.

Last night, Dulwich College Seoul was proud to serve as a signature sponsor at the European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) New Year Party, held at the Fairmont Ambassador Hotel in Yeouido. Our Director of Business Administration, Mr Paul Smith, delivered a toast emphasising collaboration, global citizenship, and sustainability as cornerstones for a brighter future. Meanwhile, Mr Mark Knights accompanied our Senior School Rock Band, who entertained the guests with their performance and showcased the talent and dedication of our students.

This evening, I will be attending the American Women’s Club (AWC) Korea LOVE Gala at the Grand Hyatt Seoul alongside several members of our staff. Dulwich College Seoul is honoured to be a silver sponsor of this annual charity event. Proceeds from the gala will benefit a range of local philanthropic initiatives, supporting the elderly in need, North Korean refugees, orphans, and children with disabilities. I would especially like to thank Year 4 parent Tracey Lincoln, who also serves as the AWC Events Committee Co-Chair, for inviting us to join this meaningful occasion. It promises to be a wonderful evening that reflects the spirit of service and community both AWC Korea and our College strive to uphold.

As we head into the weekend, we can expect the cold to persist—though with clear skies. Please continue to wrap up warmly for any time outdoors. Next week should offer some relief, with temperatures edging above freezing during the day, so let’s all look forward to more comfortable weather soon. In the meantime, take care and stay cosy.

Kind regards,

Best regards,
Alison Derbyshire
