Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was such a delight to see our students don their colourful hanboks today in celebration of Chuseok, the Harvest Moon Holiday that’s one of the biggest holidays of the year in Korea. The vibrant display added an extra layer of cheerfulness to our already bustling corridors. Despite it being a short week, with the Chuseok holiday beginning tomorrow, the buzz and excitement around the special assembly and other activities were palpable.
This morning’s Pastries with Parents event for Year 4 was a lot of fun. I did find myself missing the old spiral staircase, which served as an excellent podium for addressing attendees. However, there’s no question that the new slide that has replaced it is a big improvement, especially if you ask the students. Their joyful laughter and excitement as they took turns sliding down the Dulwich Drop certainly underscored its popularity.
I’d like to draw your attention to our Open House for Prospective Parents, scheduled for 9am on Wednesday, 18 October. If you know of friends or colleagues who are keen to discover more about our educational environment, please do share this invitation with them. Attendees will have the chance to meet with College Leadership and parent representatives, enjoy a guided tour of our facilities, and witness our vibrant curriculum in action. Kindly note that the event is specially tailored for those who are not yet familiar with Dulwich College Seoul. For our current families interested in a campus tour, appointments can be made through our Primary School Administrator, Esther Yang or Senior School Administrator Suji Choi. We pride ourselves in knowing most of our new families come to us through existing Dulwich families and your support in spreading the word is greatly appreciated.
Today’s Special Chuseok Assembly was an extraordinary celebration that perfectly captured the spirit and talent of not just our community, but also our wonderful neighbours at Gyeseong Elementary, whose students provided a dazzling opening percussion performance of Pungmulnori. Theirs was a tough act to follow, but our students rose to the challenge splendidly. The Year 10 drama segment was a multilingual feast, aligning with the assembly’s theme of ‘language’. Last but not least, what really brought the house down was our annual tradition of the parody staff music video, which had the whole gymnasium erupting in laughter. We had a blast making the video and we hope you enjoy it too!
Many thanks to Jude Lee for overseeing all the Chuseok festivities and special assembly, and to Sam Wigginton for producing a staff video that will undoubtedly be the talk of the town.
On the eve of this Chuseok holiday and midterm break, I’d like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a restful and joyful time. Whether you’re spending it with family, traveling out of country, or simply enjoying some well-earned rest and relaxation, may this break offer you a chance to recharge and reflect. See you all back here, reinvigorated and ready for another exciting Term 2 ahead. Happy Chuseok!
With my best wishes,
Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
