Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Wednesday, we celebrated World Peace Day. Children across the whole College wore purple and took part in discussions and activities related to the subject of ‘End Racism and Build Peace’.
At the end of the day, we all took part in an exercise in mass choreography. How exciting it was to join over 800 students and staff on the field to become a “human pixel” (that’s me in the white box) in this giant purple peace symbol! Click here to download the high-res photos if you would like to zoom in and locate your own child(ren) in the crowd.
Earlier that same day, I joined Muffins with Mums and it was great seeing Year 4 parents. Some parents may have been taken by surprise to see some staff showing their World Peace Day spirit in our various purple-tinted sunglasses and bright purple wigs.
We are happy to inform you that we have raised 347,000 KRW from our Beer for Charity counter at the Welcome Back Picnic. Thank you again to AB InBev for the kind donation of products and to all who donated at the event. The proceeds will be donated to Young Focus Foundation and Volunteer for the Visayans.
Head of Outdoor Education Holly Brigham has been extra busy this week helping multiple Senior School cohorts prepare to embark on their adventurous journeys at locations around the country. This is a great confidence booster for the students, and no doubt many new friendship bonds will be formed, and existing ones strengthened, during their time away.
We are disappointed that the Year 8 trip had to be cancelled for safety concerns resulting from a sudden itinerary change. However, we are planning an exciting trip scheduled for Term 3 and will update parents as soon as details are confirmed.
It is my great pleasure to announce that we have officially launched our Virtual Tour on our homepage this week. It was truly an all-hands on deck effort and the results are fantastic! Anyone with an internet connection can take a guided tour of the College with interactive 360° photos and videos. Click here to take a tour yourself!
Today in the Senior School assembly, the students watched short campaign videos from each of the 16 candidates for Head Boy and Head Girl before casting their votes. It’s an extremely strong field of candidates this year. I look forward to offering my hearty congratulations to the students taking on those important leadership roles and representing our College.
I hope you will take a moment to read DCSL PE teacher Rebecca O’Brien’s opinion piece for The Korea Times: Play Sports! A PE teacher’s message for girls. It is a timely and important article that closely aligns with our College values. My thanks to Becky for sharing her voice and experience in being part of the change we seek to bring to our world.
Please come to the next Dulwich Talk on Tuesday 27 September at 8.30am. North Korea expert Jacco Zwetsloot will be giving us a fascinating historical overview of the “propaganda war” between North and South Korea over the decades. Click here to RSVP.
I hope you have a restful weekend.
With my best wishes,
Mr Gudmundur Hegner Jonsson
Head of College
