From our Head of College

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We welcomed 80 prospective parents and families for our Open House this week. It was wonderful to meet new families and I was particularly impressed by our stellar Year 6 House Captains who did an excellent job ushering guests from the foyer to the auditorium. Our four outgoing Head Students also did a great job sharing their experiences about the IB Programme and what extracurricular activities they most enjoyed while at Dulwich College Seoul. I would like to thank our Admissions team, Primary Leadership Team and Senior School Leadership Team, the Friends of Dulwich and everyone who helped make the event such a great success.

The season for adventure trips and hiking continued, with Year 5 back and Primary School students going on autumn hikes throughout the week. The crystal-clear blue skies made it the ideal weather for these outings and the students reported having the time of their lives – connecting with friends, going outside of their comfort zones, discovering nature and essentially creating unforgettable memories.

We continued to welcome parents for the Parent Teacher Conferences to learn more about their children’s learning journeys.

On housekeeping matters, I’m pleased to report that the Parent Contact Directory is now live. Primary School parents will have access to all PS directories, and Senior School parents will have access to all SS directories. Parents who have children in both PS and SS will have access to both directories.

I’m also excited to share our latest College Magazine with you. This publication includes highlights from our last academic year, and I hope you will peruse it and see the richness and vibrancy that marked our last school year.

I’d like to thank the Friends of Dulwich for their continued active engagement of our community. This week, FoD organized a cooking class on how to make focaccia bread (the baking aroma from the kitchen emanated throughout the College!) and the monthly coffee morning, this time combined with a used book sale that featured an impressive array of books for all ages.

It was great to see the announcement of our four Head Students, Connie H, Somi H, Aiden L and Amirtha N, each representing one of our core values, excellent, diversity, community and sustainability, respectively. I’d like to thank our stellar outgoing Head Students Ella H, Oscar O, Ian K and Eleanor S for their exceptional leadership and achievements during their tenure and look forward to seeing our new batch of Head Students do great things this year.

Today, we celebrated Global Citizenship Day and our campus was filled with energy and buzz around tables decorated with various country flags, paraphernalia, delicious food and fun facts. I would like to thank the Friends of Dulwich, all parents who helped make this possible, and the Head of Primary School Jane Smith and Primary School Administrator Esther Yang for organizing this delightful event and learning opportunity.

In the week ahead, Primary School students and staff are going to Beijing to participate in the Dulwich Games and Dulwich Shakespearean Festival. I myself will be in Beijing for a Heads of College meeting with the other Dulwich and Dehong Schools.

After the successful UK university fair this week, we will have a UCC kick-off for Year 7 and Year 9; our Year 3 will go on a trip to the Seoul Folk Museum and our Primary School students will continue to go on the autumn hikes.

As the weather gets colder, we have entered holiday season, and have launched our annual Christmas Gift Drive. Please see our Primary School section for details.

I hope you stay warm and enjoy the outdoors in this perfect weather.

With my best wishes,

Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
