Dear Parents and Guardians,
Graduation day is here! Years of hard work and wonderful memories have culminated in today’s ceremony that honours and sends off our 32 graduates to an exciting next chapter of their lives.
I could not be prouder of their incredible achievements, and I cannot wait to see how they will continue to pursue their passions and interests and make a positive difference in the world. They have been accepted into top universities worldwide that best fit their strengths and interests, including Cambridge, University of Edinburgh, Columbia, University of Chicago, USC and NYU, to name a few.
Our graduates have celebrated with their families, friends and teachers, and are heading to the after-party as we speak. Congratulations to our Class of 2024 and I am looking forward to celebrating with you!
On other news, I would like to extend a hearty congratulations to Shackleton House for their triumphant win at the Junior Sports Day 2024, held recently at Banpo. The spirit of competition was alive and well, with all houses displaying tremendous energy and sportsmanship. Well done to all participants for a fantastic display of athleticism and teamwork!
I was so impressed by our Year 4 students’ production, The Island, a play based on the book by Armin Greder that showcased their exceptional talents and conveyed a powerful message about openness, care, and integrity. Students created the script and staging in the past term. The performance was a beautiful reminder of the values we hold dear at Dulwich, and the students did a fantastic job in bringing this story to life.
Next week, we will honour and celebrate our athletes at the Sports Awards Ceremony on 20 May, acknowledging the dedication and achievements of our students in sports.
We also have an upcoming visit from a practitioner of the Royal Shakespeare Company. From the birthplace of Shakespeare, Stratford-upon-Avon, the practitioner will be engaging our students from Years 1 to Year 3 in an exploration of story and language through Shakespeare’s works, The Tempest and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This week-long workshop is set to ignite the imaginations of our young learners, enhancing their language skills and appreciation for classical literature.
I would like to invite you to our Coffee Morning with UCC Team on Tuesday, 21 May from 9 AM to 10 AM in the B1 Atrium. This will be an opportunity to meet with our University and Career Counselling Counsellors and gain insights into how we support our students in their higher education and career aspirations.
We are eager to welcome the world-renowned A Capella group from Yale University, The Yale Spizzwinks(?), for a special one-hour concert on Thursday 23 May at 5pm at the College Auditorium. The group will also conduct a two-hour masterclass before the concert with our students, which is truly a rare opportunity that our students will surely enjoy and be inspired by.
Finally, we have sent a formal invitation to our Founder’s Day on Saturday 8 June. Our theme this year is Community and Sustainability, and we are excited to have added several new activities that are true to the theme, including farm to table cooking demos, building plant boxes using recycled plastic and a fashion show using upcycled deconstructed clothes. We are also looking forward to welcoming Dr Cameron Pyke from our Founding School in London, as well as our alumni, partners in the chambers of commerce and expat and local communities for a broad celebration together. Hope you will join us!
Thank you all for your continued support and hope you enjoy the gorgeous weather.
With my best wishes,
Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
