Dear Parent/Guardian,
I am writing this message from Singapore, where I am attending the FOBISIA Heads Business Conference at Tanglin School. While I regret missing our Senior School’s powerful production of The Terrible Fate of Humpty Dumpty this week, I have heard wonderful reports about the performance. Directed by our talented Head of Drama, Matthew Readman, the production tackled the serious issue of bullying through the tragic story of Tommy Dumpton, exploring how seemingly small acts of cruelty can escalate to devastating consequences. I understand our students delivered deeply moving performances that left some in the audience visibly emotional. While no school is immune to issues like bullying, productions like this provide valuable opportunities for reflection and dialogue about the kind of community we aspire to be. I am immensely proud of our students for their courage in addressing such challenging themes and for their exceptional artistic talents in bringing this important story to life.

I would like to remind all parents that this Weekly E-update newsletter will be discontinued from April 2025, with all school news updates transitioning exclusively to the MyDulwich platform. If you have not yet logged into your MyDulwich account, I strongly encourage you to do so before this transition to ensure you continue to receive important school updates without interruption. To support you with this change, we have prepared comprehensive resources including a PDF guide to MyDulwich Essentials covering login procedures, web app installation for both iOS and Android devices, and notification settings. For those who prefer video tutorials, we have also created step-by-step guides for each aspect of the platform setup. These resources are available in the Whole School section of this update.
I want to share some important information regarding the ongoing political developments in Seoul. Following yesterday’s Constitutional Court ruling on several impeachment cases (not related to President Yoon’s case, which remains pending), we anticipate increased protest activity in specific areas of Seoul over the coming days. Demonstrations are expected around the National Assembly area, the Gwanghwamun area (from Anguk-dong where the Constitutional Court is located to City Hall), and the Hannam-dong area. These activities may cause significant traffic disruptions and potentially affect some school bus routes. I encourage all families to plan for possible delays, consider alternative routes if you typically travel through these areas, and allow extra time for your journey to and from school. The College Leadership Team is monitoring the situation closely, and we will communicate promptly if there are any developments that might impact our school operations. As always, the safety of our community remains our highest priority.
Upon my return to Seoul this weekend, we will be preparing to welcome our EiM Quality Assurance visit team next week, led by Nick Magnus, Head of Dulwich College Singapore, along with a small team of leaders from other schools in the Dulwich network. These visits provide valuable opportunities for our College to reflect on our practices and receive insights from experienced colleagues across our Family of Schools. I look forward to sharing highlights from this collaborative process in future communications. In the meantime, I hope you all enjoy a pleasant weekend, and I send my best wishes from Singapore.
Best regards,
Alison Derbyshire
