Dear Parents and Guardians,
Our youngest learners from Nursery to Year 2 braved the field with the biggest of hearts for our DUCKS Sports Day today. Although I was unable to attend, I’m told the determination on their faces was firm, and I was happy to hear that many proud parents were there providing their enthusiastic support from the sidelines.
Thank you to the PE department for the excellent organisation and a big well done to all the students who gave it their all. Congratulations to everyone in Sejong for a well-earned victory in the Nursery/Reception events, and to Shackleton for their win in the Year 1 and Year 2 category. Today’s success was a collective effort, and every student should feel proud.
No Smoking on Premises
We have learned of people smoking in the parking lot for persons with disabilities and we would like to remind you that smoking is not allowed anywhere on the premises. Thank you for your cooperation to ensure the health and safety of our students, parents and staff.
No Parking on Parking Lot for Persons with a Disability
This is a reminder to all parents to please park in the basement public lot. Please do not park in the parking lot for persons with disabilities. It is illegal to do so and it is a health and safety issue for students who walk to the buses as the cars parked in the lot come in and out. The parking lot is for persons with disabilities only and we urge you to leave those spaces free for persons with disabilities to use. Thank you for upholding our values around diversity, equity and inclusion to ensure persons with disabilities could easily find parking.
With the graduation only a week away, I am very happy to report on the university acceptances of our Class of 2023. They have continued our tradition of excellence with remarkable acceptances to top universities including the University of Cambridge, University of Chicago, The Juilliard School, University of California – Berkeley, University of California – LA, London School of Economics, University College London (UCL), and The University of Hong Kong, among many others. These achievements highlight the diligence and dedication of our students, and we couldn’t be prouder. Please refer to the full list of acceptances in the Whole School section for more details.
Today you will have received an email invitation to attend our Founder’s Day celebration on Saturday 3 June. We are honoured to be partnering with the British Embassy this time to celebrate 140 Years of UK-Korea relations. With an exciting lineup of live music, a plethora of games and activities and a variety of delicious food options on offer, it’s going to be a great day. Please note this event is open to Dulwich families only and a lanyard is required for entry. You can find more details in the Whole School section. Thank you for your cooperation and I look forward to seeing you there.
We have an exciting Dulwich Talk coming up next week. Edwin Kim, an acclaimed pianist, composer, scholar, and speaker, will take us on a captivating journey through his musical career, share insights into his creative process, while treating us to some of his amazing piano pieces, including reworked versions of the Korean classic, Arirang. The performance-cum-talk will take place at 9.20am on Wednesday 17 May in the College Auditorium. Parents are most welcome to attend.
Our Ignite: Switzerland programme, a 12-week residential experience for our adventurous Year 9 students, is currently in full swing. I’m sharing with you this snapshot from their adventures that we have recently received. Please see the Whole School section for more photos. Year 8 parents, keep an eye out in the next few weeks for an invitation from Senior School for the upcoming term’s programme sign-up. This is an excellent opportunity for our students to live “worldwise,” as they grow into global citizens and environmental stewards.
Our Year 3 students are just now returning from their Residential Trips. They have had an absolute ball during the last three days with cycling, canoeing and hiking activities. Please see the Primary School section for more information about their adventures. Next week, Year 6 students will embark on an even more ambitious five-day Residential, for which they must all be very excited.
Please have a restful weekend and enjoy the nice warm weather.
With my best wishes,
Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
