From our Head of College

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Winter Bazaar was a tremendous success, and the feedback I’ve received has been overwhelmingly positive. The organization by the Friends of Dulwich (FoD) was exceptional, setting a new standard for our future events. I relished the opportunity to first dress up as Santa and then hop up on stage for an impromptu rendition of White Christmas. I was so very happy to see our entire community come together and sharing in joy and laughter at this event. A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to this event’s success.

The Winter Concert last Friday evening was simply magnificent, featuring everything from string orchestras and choirs to Nanta, big band, and jazz performances; it truly had it all. If you would like to watch these wonderful performances, we have uploaded the video to YouTube. I extend my congratulations to Mark Knights, Jeongmin Lee, Nara Lee, Cindy Kim, and, of course, the students for orchestrating such a wonderful show.

This week has been a whirlwind of adventure and learning for our students on their Thailand Adventure trips. Year 9 students bonded over camping and outdoor skills, including fire safety and navigation, while also enjoying the natural beauty of their surroundings with star gazing and animal watching. Meanwhile, Year 10 embarked on a journey encompassing community service, caving and trekking, and white-water rafting, gaining insights into sustainable practices and teamwork. Our Year 12 students engaged in a service project at a local school, where they demonstrated their leadership and creativity.

The trip was filled with memorable moments, from trekking through jungles and learning about local wildlife to interacting with elephants and engaging in cultural exchanges. The students’ resilience, camaraderie, and respect for the environment were commendable, truly embodying the spirit of Dulwich College Seoul.

Despite so many of our students being away on trips, there was plenty happening at school. We’ve enjoyed a flurry of activities including two lively Primary School Disco Parties, the adorable DUCKS Christmas production, and the impressive ‘play in a week’ by Year 8. Adding to the excitement, the Friends of Dulwich (FoD) hosted a baking class with Mr Harvey, and our Year 4 students showcased their achievements for their parents in a Celebration of Learning. Furthermore, Senior School students who weren’t on trips experienced a jam-packed Enrichment Week, filled with daily activities to keep them both engaged and entertained. What a busy week it’s been!

As we near the end of Term 1, it’s amazing to look back and appreciate how much we have accomplished together. With only one week to go before we break for the holidays and step into 2024, I want to acknowledge the hard work, enthusiasm, and community spirit of our families, staff and students that have really shone these past months. Thank you for your ongoing support.

With my best wishes,

Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
