Dear Parents and Guardians,
I’m happy to report that today’s Welcome Back Picnic, (still ongoing at time of sending) was an absolute triumph. The college field was awash with the vibrant colours of our community, and the air was filled with laughter, conversation, and live music. It was a pleasure to see so many of you enjoying yourselves, making new connections, and even daring to take the plunge down the Dulwich Drop! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making this a memorable afternoon.
On Wednesday, I had the pleasure of lunching in Seorae Village with the Friends of Dulwich (FoD) Executive Committee members, featuring both familiar faces and new additions. The gathering provided an excellent opportunity for us all to become better acquainted and engage in fruitful discussions about school life and various exciting plans for the upcoming year. A special word of gratitude goes to our new Co-Chairs, Sunny and Susanna, for helping to organise the meeting.
The first Friends of Dulwich event for the academic year is fast approaching: the FoD Coffee Morning and Uniform Sale. Scheduled for 8.30am on Thursday, 14 September, in the B1 Atrium, this gathering is the perfect occasion to replenish winter uniform items before the season turns. I hope to see many of you there.
Our inaugural ‘Pastries with Parents’ series of events kicks off next Wednesday morning in the B1 Atrium at 7.45am with Year 6. This is the first in this series of breakfast events covering the entire Primary School. Parents will have the chance to mingle with each other and staff, strengthening connections within their child’s year group.
As you know, this academic year will be my final one at Dulwich College Seoul. I’m incredibly grateful for the experiences and milestones we’ve shared as a community. Next week, we are welcoming back to our campus David Fitzgerald, Global Director of Education at Education in Motion (EiM). David is spearheading the recruitment for my successor as Head of College, commencing in July 2024. He will be on campus meeting with staff, parents, and students who have volunteered to participate in this critical process. It’s a great way for the Dulwich community to be actively involved in shaping the future leadership of the College.
Next week marks the start of our Term 1 Extra-Curricular Activities (ECAs) across the whole College. I would like to thank Mark Lovett, Head of Outdoor Education, and Jiyeong Lee, Whole College Administrator, for coordinating this extensive programme. With offerings spanning sustainability, leadership, athletics, academics, and wellbeing, there really is something for everyone.
With my best wishes,
Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
