Farewells and Warm Welcomes

As we draw closer to the conclusion of this academic year, it is with a sense of deep gratitude that we bid farewell to our departing staff members. Their dedicated service has played an integral part in shaping Dulwich College Seoul, leaving lasting impacts on our community. We wish them every success in their future endeavours.

On the other side of this coin, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of our new staff members, who will be joining our Dulwich family from various corners of the globe in August. We look forward to welcoming them into our community and witnessing the fresh perspectives they bring.

For a comprehensive list of both departing and incoming staff, see below. Safe journeys to all those travelling, and we look forward to welcoming our new team members in the new academic year.

Dulwich Ribboned Hat

Thank you to those of you who purchased a Dulwich Ribboned Hat at Founder’s Day. Thanks to the generosity of our community, I’m pleased to say that we raised 460,000 KRW, which we will be donating to the Myongdo Welfare Center, an organisation that is deeply committed to supporting underprivileged individuals in the southernmost part of the country. These funds will assist in their ongoing efforts to provide employment and skill-building opportunities for disabled adults through the operation of the Myongdo Bakery. Thank you again for your support.

Lost Property – Please collect your children’s items

We have amassed a great deal of lost property this term and it will be put out on display in the MPR (first floor by Reception) by our very thoughtful FoD members. Classes will check the tables for their own items and parents are invited in to look through the items too. Named items will be returned to students in class, but unnamed items will be displayed.

Civil Defence Emergency Policy

We have received queries from parents in relation to the actions the College would take in the eventuality of an emergency. You may recall that the government had recently erroneously sent out an emergency alert via mobile phones advising citizens to prepare for an evacuation.

In the eventuality of an emergency we follow the College Civil Defence Emergency policy. This policy outlines how the College should react in the event of an air raid or disaster warning (e.g. typhoon) sounding across the city.

Air Raid

In the event of an air raid, we are required to evacuate all staff, students, and visitors to the underground car park beneath the College. We have several entrance routes, including internal, into the car park from the College building which would allow for an orderly, safe, and quick evacuation into the car park. Once there we would wait for the all-clear announcement to sound. Other schools in our area are directed to use their basements as evacuation spaces.

The College command centre for civil defence evacuation will be adjacent to the car park toll booth. The Head of College, Head of Security, Director of Business Administration, and College Nurse will be present at this place. The College holds in reserve water, food, and blankets to accommodate students for at least one night at school. The College will communicate with parents via text message and email to notify them of the situation and to allow for the collection of students once the all-clear announcement has sounded. Parents should access the underground car park via the ramp entrance, the stairway at the front of the school by the ATM, or by the stairway by the black gates to the side of the school.

The government plans drills and usually announces them in the press prior to the drill. If we hear of a planned drill, we will inform all staff and parents of the date and time of the drill. In such case, the College has the discretion not to evacuate to the basement. In the event of a planned drill, all children and staff should proceed indoors and remain indoors until the all-clear announcement sounds.

Please be aware that the College Uniform Shop will be closed for the summer break from 19 June to 11 August. Consequently, there will be no sales of school uniforms during this period.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We kindly request that you make the necessary arrangements to purchase any required uniform items from 14 August, when the shop reopens.
