Senior School

It has been another week has been full of opportunities to celebrate and grow together.

Our Head Students have been reflecting on their experience at the EiM Leadership Conference, sharing the connections they made and their next steps in listening to and engaging with our student community, as they strive to make a positive impact within our school.

The varsity football season has officially begun, with our varsity teams training hard and looking forward to what promises to be an exciting and successful season. Teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship are at the heart of their efforts, and we can’t wait to cheer them on. Congratulations also to the Middle School girl’s volleyball squad, a self-formed group who are continuing to develop and compete in local games.

This week, our scientists put their knowledge to the test in the highly challenging Royal Chemistry Olympiad and Senior Physics Competition. These prestigious competitions allow our students to demonstrate their scientific skills in a rigorous environment, and we are proud of their dedication and hard work. We are confident that they will have enjoyed the challenge, gaining valuable experience and insight from competing at such a high level.

This week, we were treated to a mesmerising visit from the Roy McGrath Jazz Quartet; their performances were so organic, encapsulating their love of the jazz genre and making music as a group. Their performances and workshops inspired our music students, fostering creativity, passion, and a deeper understanding of this expressive art form.

Our Lunar New Year Assembly was a stunning showcase of creativity, global-mindedness, and linguistic and performance skills. Students impressed us all with their talent and dedication, while the celebration highlighted the diversity and cultural richness of our community. A heartfelt thank you to the Mandarin team for their hard work and commitment in bringing this event to life.

Looking ahead, preparations are underway for two exciting High School social events: the Prom on 14 February and the Sleepover on 28 February. These events are fantastic opportunities for our students to build connections and strengthen their sense of community. Students are signing up over the next two weeks, we will then send consent forms to parents.

Sign-ups are now open for Ignite 25/26, offering students extraordinary opportunities to extend their learning beyond the classroom. Don’t miss this chance for your child to engage in truly transformative experiences, if you missed the presentation please review the slide deck here. Sign up details have been shared via email.

Finally, a reminder that school will be closed to students on 31 January, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back on 3 February.

Wishing you all a joyful and restful Seollal.

Have a great week everyone.

Lunar New Year Collaborative Art Project: Year of the Snake

Year 7 and Year 8 students joined forces to create a stunning display celebrating the Lunar New Year and the Year of the Snake. This collaborative project allowed students to explore and develop their craft skills in art while fostering essential social skills, such as effective communication and decision-making. From intricate paper-cut designs to vibrant snake-themed decorations, the students worked together to bring their creative vision to life. The final display is a beautiful testament to their teamwork and talent, as well as a meaningful celebration of cultural traditions.

SSAEM Peer Mentoring

The Year 12 and Year 13 students are re-introducing the new SSAEM peer mentoring program for this term!

‘SSAEM’, which roughly translates to ‘tutor’ in Korean vernacular, is designed to help younger students (Year 7 to Year 11) with academics and other things relating to the senior school. It can be a great way to gain insight into IB students’ perspectives on school and also to discuss topics that are more suitable for a mature student body.

Mentees will be joined up as either single sessions (one mentor and one mentee) or double sessions (one mentor and two mentees), depending on the mentees’ choices. Scheduling for meetings will happen individually via email between the mentors and the mentees, which can happen anytime from lunchtime to 4.30pm after school.

For students wishing to become mentees for this term, please fill out this form.

We look forward to seeing more students sign up!
