Senior School

This week has been buzzing with activity and inspiration. We are excited to announce our upcoming collaboration with Oppidan Group, who specialise in mentoring students and teaching effective mentorship skills. More information will be shared soon, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on our community.

We are also proud to welcome Celine Cousteau, a remarkable figure focused on making meaningful change. Her call to use media as a tool for individual growth and global awareness was an interesting idea. More details can be found in the article linked below.

This week’s Sports Day was a fantastic event, with students fully engaged, motivated, and demonstrating great teamwork. It was lovely to see so many parents supporting our athletes. Next year, we’re aiming to introduce a parent relay to challenge our teachers!

The sporting spirit continued after sports day with our Varsity volleyball team playing a friendly against SPPS and they’ll play KAIAC league matches against KKFS on Friday. On Saturday the U15 FOBISIA Team will play in the end of season KAIAC football tournament at TCIS.

The BUISK university fair, organised by our dynamic UCC team, was a great success. It provided invaluable guidance for students finalising their study options and contemplating their future paths.

Currently, I’m enjoying the beautiful Dulwich College Puxi campus at the annual EiM Head of Senior Schools conference. It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with fellow Heads, share insights on innovation, and discuss the next steps to keep our community at the forefront of learning and wellbeing. Eagerly awaiting being able to share our news with the CIS visitors next week.

Lastly, we wish our Year 9 – Year 11 mathematicians the best of luck at the SKISMC competitions hosted at Dwight School this Friday and Saturday. They will be well-supported by Patrick Fitzgibbon and Zowie Heap.

A reminder that we are starting winter uniform from Monday 14 October, so please get ties, school jumpers/cardigans and blazers ready to wear.

Céline Cousteau visits Senior School

On Tuesday, our Secondary students had the opportunity to participate in inspiring assemblies and workshops with Céline Cousteau as part of the Shackleton Lectures. An accomplished environmental activist and filmmaker, Céline emphasised our deep connection with nature and each other.

She addressed various impactful topics for specific year groups. For Year 10 and Year 11, Céline presented Women of My Family, sharing stories from her lineage of female explorers and highlighting resilience. In Inspired and Connected for Year 7 to Year 9, she explored our relationship with the natural world and its cultural significance. For Year 12 and Year 13, she focused on Transformational Activism, discussing how personal beliefs can inspire meaningful action.

The students were moved by Céline’s resilience and bravery, as well as her message that we can all make a positive impact. Passionate about inclusion, equality, and biodiversity, she highlighted the importance of being engaged global citizens

SSAEM Peer Mentoring

The Year 12 and Year 13 students are re-introducing the new SSAEM peer mentoring program for this term!

‘SSAEM’, which roughly translates to ‘tutor’ in Korean vernacular, is designed to help younger students (Year 7 to Year 11) with academics and other things relating to the senior school. It can be a great way to gain insight into IB students’ perspectives on school and also to discuss topics that are more suitable for a mature student body.

Mentees will be joined up as either single sessions (one mentor and one mentee) or double sessions (one mentor and two mentees), depending on the mentees’ choices. Scheduling for meetings will happen individually via email between the mentors and the mentees, which can happen anytime from lunchtime to 4.30pm after school.

For students wishing to become mentees for this term, please fill out this form.

We look forward to seeing more students sign up!
