Dear Parents and Guardians,
Founder’s Day festivities are finally upon us, taking place tomorrow, Saturday, 8 June 2024, rain or shine. This year’s theme, Sustainability and Community, reflects our commitment to a sustainable future, loving the community we live in and celebrating the strength of our Dulwich College Seoul community. The event, which starts at 11am (doors open at 10.30am), will be filled with a diverse set of activities for all ages, including teacher and staff-led games, special activities, and musical performances. We’ll also have a variety of delicious food and beverage options available. I’m looking forward to seeing all of you and your families on campus tomorrow for a fantastic day of fulfilling connections, fun, community pride, and shared experiences. Although the forecast predicts rain, it should clear before the event begins, allowing us to enjoy the day’s festivities without interruption. In the event of rain, we have made alternative arrangements to move things indoors so please rest assured and enjoy the event.
This week, our youngest learners demonstrated their athletic prowess and sportsmanship at their Sports Days, much to the delight of the onlooking parents. Today, our Nursery and Reception students showcased their skills and enthusiasm, competing with cheerful smiles and supporting each other like a close-knit family. Earlier on Wednesday, our Year 1 and Year 2 students displayed their growing abilities and teamwork. Congratulations to Mr Poulton and his PE team for holding two successful events in one week.
Thank you to DUCKS parents for your patience and cooperation during the recent side entrance closure during the work on the school sidewalk. Your understanding and flexibility during this time have been greatly appreciated as we navigated these necessary modifications to ensure the safety of our students, parents, and staff. Now that the work is complete and the side DUCKS entrance is open once again, we can all benefit from the vastly improved infrastructure in our local area.
I want to take a moment to express my deep appreciation for the incredible work done by the Friends of Dulwich (FoD) throughout this school year, with special thanks to co-chairs Susanna and Sunny. Their efforts in organizing events and fostering a strong sense of community have been instrumental in creating a rich and supportive environment for our students and families. As the year comes to a close, the FoD is looking for new members to join their executive committee and continue this vital work. I invite you to read their full message in the whole school section of this update to learn more about the opportunities available and how you can get involved in shaping our school community’s future.
It was a pleasure hosting David Fitzgerald from EiM this week, in what will be his last visit before he leaves us this year. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank David for all his support and I wish him the very best in future endeavours.
Congratulation to our Senior School students who have wrapped up their exams and are ready for their final days in school before the summer!
Another set of congratulations are in order for our Years 3 to 6 who participated in a House Swimming Gala. The event was a resounding success and great job to all participants, teachers, and parents for their dedication and support, making this gala a wonderful event and great experience for the students. Special kudos to the champions in each year group and Shackleton House for coming out first in the overall positions across all year groups.
On Monday, we’re looking forward to welcoming our June Dulwich Talk speaker, Jeff Wong, Global Chief Innovation Officer at Ernst & Young (EY), who will speak to our Year 10 students about his role and professional trajectory landing at the intersection of technology, innovation & inclusion. We hope our students will come to the session with lots of great questions as they always do.
I look forward to seeing you tomorrow!
With my best wishes,
Mr. Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
Head of College
