Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week kicked off with a delightful Year 3 Morning Mingle, providing an opportunity for parents to be “spoiled” by their children over a delicious breakfast and engage directly with teachers. It was wonderful to see so many of you there.
Our Year 6 students embarked on an Award Hike, which covered 10.5 kilometres of the Dulle Forest Trail. The Year 6 students reportedly embodied the IB Learner Profile attributes as they completed the physical aspect of the Year 6 Award. It was clear to staff who accompanied them that this year group is ready for the transition to Senior School in August.
Similarly, our Year 1 students enjoyed their own hike, exploring and learning in the great outdoors by walking 3 kilometres along the Han River and discovering wildlife along the way.
We had a successful Year 6 Parent Workshop on Senior School, designed to ease the transition for both students and their families by providing valuable insights into what lies ahead in their educational journey. The highlight of the event was having Year 7 students Mia and Aparajita share their experiences and insights, as well as tips on managing the transition from Year 6 to Year 7.
The Friends of Dulwich (FoD) held their monthly coffee morning that doubled as a used uniform/used book sale and was well-attended. I can’t commend our FoD enough for always being there for the community and being so generous with their time, especially in providing such an important service to our parents by collecting, organizing, and selling gently used uniforms and books – all of which aligns with our sustainability value. I had the pleasure of meeting FoD’s core executive committee for lunch to thank them for their service. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank all FoD members, especially our co-chairs Sunny Moon and Susanna Wollschläger, for their leadership and service. You will be missed, and we look forward to continuing the great work with your successors next year.
Our Year 2 Adventure Residential is currently underway. These first two days have been filled with exploration and discovery, and we will transition to the residential phase on school grounds. This experience is designed to empower our students to take risks and grow, laying the groundwork for a successful transition to Year 3 next year.
Meanwhile, the Primary School is buzzing with anticipation for the Tic-Tac-Toe House Competition running early next week. This event promises to be a fun challenge for our students, encouraging them to think strategically and collaborate effectively.
The theatrical talents of Year 4 will be on display in their production of ‘The Island’ next Tuesday. This performance is a testament to the hard work of our students and staff, and I invite you to attend to see their creativity in action.
Next Thursday, we will host the Sports Day for Years 3 through Year 6. This event is a fantastic opportunity for parents to witness the athletic skills and team spirit of our students. Please come and cheer on your children in what promises to be an exhilarating celebration!
Last but not least, our Year 13 Graduation is finally upon us. Friday 17 May will be a milestone to celebrate the accomplishments and hard work of our graduating students. It gives us great pride and pleasure to honour them with lots of fanfare and emotion. I can’t wait to see all the great things they will continue to do to make the world a better place.
With my best wishes,
Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
