Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last weekend, we welcomed Liverpool Legend Jason McAteer onto the campus for the SC Bank LFC Soccer School. There were seven training sessions across two days with 26 very excited Dulwich students participating.
The event was an overwhelming success and the children had a wonderful time honing their skills under the eye of a true master of the game. Participants all received full LFC kits, miniature footballs, and an autograph from Mr McAteer himself. I’m sure it was an experience that they will treasure for a long time to come.
Continuing with the sporting theme, our boys and girls volleyball teams were both victorious against the visiting teams from International Christian School Pyeongtaek on Wednesday, with the boys coming away 3-1 and the girls achieving a clean sweep 3-0 for their inaugural matches on the new gym surface.
I enjoyed meeting and chatting with members of our community this week at a number of different social events, including the Friends of Dulwich (FoD) Social Coffee Morning and Used Book Sale, the Year 1 Muffins with Mums (and dads) and the Year 9 to Year 11 Senior School Social. Thank you to everyone who helped to put those events together.
Good mental health is fundamental to our school values, and this week we marked World Mental Health day with a range of special activities, including busking outside the cafeteria, mindfulness yoga sessions, and the creation of ‘calming jars’ – like snow globes but with colourful glitter.
Our Year 4 students had a blast on their adventurous journey this week. What a joy it is to see so many young smiling faces outdoors among green hills and blue skies. You may have heard that the trip had to be curtailed by one day – I had sent a separate email to all parents today – please see your inbox for further details.
EiM Global Director of Education David Fitzgerald visited us again this week. It is a pleasure to welcome him back onto our campus. David is meeting with a range of staff and students as part of his regular visit cycle to all of the EiM schools. We look forward to welcoming him back to work with our community again later in the year.
Our older Senior School students were busily engaging with representatives this week at our UK University Fair. These opportunities are crucial in helping our students to navigate their way towards making that important decision of where they would like to pursue their higher education. The feedback from the university representatives was so positive, referencing our students’ high level of engagement. One representative also shared how much she appreciated visiting a school with a strong interest in the UK. Thank you to our Director of University Counselling Paul Sweet and University Counsellor Joanne Kim for facilitating.
You will have received an email today inviting you to come to the FoD Used Uniform Sale next Friday morning, and to donate unwanted uniform items for their Donation Drive next month. I would like to personally encourage you to take part in this worthy initiative, either by purchasing or donating used uniform items, and help support our core value of sustainability.
Next week we will be holding our first Shackleton Lecture of the current academic year. This time we have Andrew Parker, a hot air balloon pilot from New Zealand who owns the most travelled hot air balloon in the world! He has the admirable goal of inspiring children to realise their own dreams. See the whole school section of this E-update for more details from Head of Outdoor Education Holly Brigham.
Finally, don’t forget to RSVP for our upcoming Dulwich Talk next Tuesday featuring Ronda Jackson, Vice President of KABOOM.
I hope you have a restful weekend.
With my best wishes,
Mr Gudmundur Hegner Jonsson
