From our Head of College

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Attending the Dulwich Gala last Friday was an absolute joy. The scene at the Conrad Seoul was a sight to behold, brimming with so many familiar faces, all dressed to impress and with such enthusiasm and elegance. I must extend my deepest appreciation to the Friends of Dulwich Gala team – Tracey Lincoln, Emil Daina, Xuxu Li, Lily Sommers, and Helena Kim – for orchestrating such a splendid evening. It was a night that highlighted the strength of our school community, and for that, I am immensely grateful.

One of the evening’s highlights was the premiere of a video, linked below, which was lovingly crafted by our own Sam Wigginton, which showcases the incredible journey of Dulwich College Seoul over the past 14 years, beautifully highlighting the transformation of our campus, and the remarkable achievements of our students. It also pays homage to the enduring support and contributions of our staff, the Friends of Dulwich, and our parents, all of whom have been instrumental in our growth. In viewing the video, one can’t help but be filled with a sense of optimism for a bright future for our school.

This week, I have had the privilege of attending the AI in Education Forum in Singapore, a ground-breaking event that has brought together the brightest minds in education to explore the vast potential of AI in transforming our teaching and learning environments. It has been an eye-opening experience, offering insights from industry pioneers, engaging discussions on pivotal AI topics, and real-world case studies that span the entire educational spectrum. It is exciting indeed to consider the innovative paths we can pursue in integrating AI into our curriculum to better prepare our students for the complexities of the digital age.

This week, we embarked on the significant task of capturing school photos, with a team of three photographers set up in the MPR from Monday to Thursday. Despite the complexity and coordination required to photograph all our students and classes, I’m pleased to report that the process was completed with remarkable smoothness. This success is not only due to the careful planning and cooperation among our staff and the photography team but also significantly attributed to our parents. A big thank you to all parents for your efforts in ensuring your children looked their absolute best for their photos.

Next Wednesday, we are delighted to welcome Alison Derbyshire to Dulwich College Seoul. Currently serving as Head of Senior School at Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong, Alison is set to succeed me as Head of College for the upcoming academic year. During her visit, Alison will meet with our College Leadership Team, Head Students, Friends of Dulwich (FoD) Co-Chairs, and various other representatives from our community. This visit is a wonderful opportunity for Alison to familiarise herself with our vibrant school community, our dedicated team, and the dynamic environment that makes Dulwich College Seoul so special. We look forward to introducing her to the many facets of our school and starting the transition process with great enthusiasm and anticipation for the future.

If you have not done so yet, please do take a moment to complete the Dulwich Experience Parent Survey (closes Sunday, 10 March 2024). Your feedback is essential for our growth and excellence. The survey is brief, confidential, and available in English and Korean. Click here to participate.

With my best wishes,

Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
