Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week, we hosted four alumni, or International Old Alleynians (IOAs), from across the network – Alice DCSZ’17, Jieun DCSZ’19, Bryan DCB’16, and Alex DCSL’18, along with Lucien Giordano, our Group Director of International Outreach and Alumni Engagement. They shared a special lunch with our IB and IGCSE students, offering them a glimpse into life beyond Dulwich. Later, at our “Meet Our Alumni” event, parents were introduced to the vast Worldwise Alumni Network, gaining insight into the myriad of opportunities awaiting their children as Dulwich alumni.
In honour of Black History Month, we had the pleasure of hosting a special guest at assembly today – the South African Ambassador to Korea, Her Excellency Zenani Nosizwe Dlamini. She is also the daughter of anti-apartheid activist and Nobel Laureate Nelson Mandela. She gave a powerful talk to our Primary School and Senior School students about how her father fought for freedom under a repressive apartheid regime, while the regime tried to charge him for treason, imprisoned him and effectively separated him from his family for years. She was four when Mandela was first imprisoned and didn’t see him until she was 15 years old – and visited him in prison. Her story is a reminder how we must never take our freedom for granted and should always honour those who fight for it.
Please save the date for 12 March, as we are excited to be partnering with our sister schools, Dulwich College Beijing and Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong, on a joint workshop called Insiders’ Guide to University Admissions. University and Careers Counselling teams in DCB and DCSP will conduct this workshop alongside our very own Paul Sweet, offering insiders’ tips and mock admissions committees to get a better sense of how to develop the most competitive applications to universities.
You can shape the future of Dulwich College Seoul by participating in our annual Dulwich Experience Parent Survey. Your feedback is crucial for us to gauge our performance and areas for enhancement. This survey, available in English and Korean, offers a platform for you to express what we excel in and what can be improved. Taking around 10 minutes, your responses will be confidential and invaluable in guiding our development. Please complete the survey by Sunday, 10 March 2024, to ensure your voice is heard. Click here to access the survey. Your input plays a vital role in our continuous growth and commitment to excellence.
Next week, from Monday to Thursday, is school photo week. It’s a time to capture this year’s memories with individual and class photographs. Please consult the whole school section of this update for detailed schedules and information to ensure your child is ready for their close-up.
As this email lands in your inbox, I will be on my way to the Conrad Seoul to attend tonight’s Dulwich Gala. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone dressed up in their best Great Gatsby-themed outfits. It’s always a pleasure to witness our community come together in such festive gatherings, and I am grateful for the Friends of Dulwich for their hard work in putting this event together for us to enjoy. I promise to share my experiences from this evening’s grand event with you all in next week’s update.
With my best wishes,
Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
