Dear Parents and Guardians,

How wonderful it was to see our students and staff wearing vibrant colours and dress from various countries in celebration of Seollal, the Lunar New Year holiday.
At the much anticipated Lunar New Year assembly today, our students beautifully showcased the rich cultural heritage of this important holiday. Our students, dressed in festive attire, presented an array of performances that captivated us all, reflecting the traditions and spirit of the Year of the Wood Dragon. In addition to the adorable and fierce performances of Year 3 and Year 1, highlights included Year 8 students singing in eight different languages, where the audience squealed with glee at the photos of teachers as students themselves featured throughout the singing; Year 5 interviewing parents and staff about the UN SDGs, a Year 13 student playing a song with two friends and Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 performing the Descendants of the Dragon dance. It was heartwarming to see our community come together to honour and celebrate this important occasion, creating memories that will surely last a lifetime.

In addition to our festive celebrations, we had the pleasure of hosting a group of students on our campus from our neighbouring French Lycée. Their visit was a wonderful opportunity for cross-cultural interaction and learning. The visiting students joined us in our Lunar New Year assembly and participated in various classroom activities, fostering a sense of global understanding and camaraderie among our students. This exchange was not only enriching but also a testament to our commitment to fostering global connections and learning experiences. I’d like to thank Mr Anthony Belkacem for organising the visit.

Looking ahead, I would like to remind you that the College will be closed on Thursday 8 February for Professional Learning Day for our staff. This day is dedicated to the continued development and growth of our staff, ensuring that we remain at the forefront of educational excellence and innovation. There will be no classes for students on this day, as our teachers and administration staff engage in a series of workshops and training sessions aimed at enhancing their skills and knowledge, as well as teamwork.
As always, we are committed to providing our students with the best possible educational experience, and the Professional Learning Day is an integral part of this commitment. We appreciate your understanding and support in this endeavour.
Please look out for the reenrolment email to be sent next week and remember that we will be taking school photos on 26-29 February. We will email you with a detailed schedule and guidance on how to request sibling photos next week.
Please enjoy a wonderful Seollal holiday weekend.
With my best wishes,
Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
