Dear Parents and Guardians,
Last night, our school community came together for a special information session in our new IB Centre, an event designed to introduce our Year 5 and Year 6 parents to life in Senior School. Hosted by Jane Smith and Suzy Pugh, and featuring insights from our Head Students, the evening was a wonderful opportunity for parents to mingle with Senior School leaders and Parent Reps and gain a deeper understanding of the educational journey awaiting their children. While I regretfully missed attending due to illness, I’ve heard it went very well indeed. For those who couldn’t join us or would like to revisit the highlights, I invite you to watch this video overview of Senior School life, crafted especially for the event, and see for yourself the rich educational experiences Dulwich College Seoul offers.
Today, our primary school was awash in a sea of blue, as students donned blue and ocean-themed costumes in support of The Ocean Cleanup Dress Up event. From vibrant sea creature outfits to waves of blue attire, our hallways were alive with the spirit of ocean conservation. With a small donation from each participating student, we are proud to contribute to The Ocean Cleanup, a vital effort that resonates deeply with our commitment to UN Sustainable Development Goal 14. It was truly inspiring to see our young learners engaged in activities that not only raised awareness about marine preservation but also embodied the collective action necessary to protect our oceans.
The countdown is on for the much-anticipated Dulwich Olympiad in Singapore next month, with over 50 of our students from Dulwich College Seoul set to join over 600 students from across the global Dulwich family. This event promises to be a dynamic celebration of sports, arts, and the unique spirit of camaraderie that defines us. As our participants gear up for five action-packed days filled with competition and creativity, we’re excited to offer you a glimpse of what’s to come. Watch the teaser video below and join us in the build-up to this extraordinary event.
As we approach the Seollal holiday, we’re excited to invite you to our Lunar New Year assembly on Wednesday, 7 February, celebrating the Year of the Wood Dragon. Join us from 2pm to 3pm in the Gym for a vibrant showcase of student performances, reflecting the rich traditions of this significant festival. In the spirit of the occasion, it will be a non-uniform day, and we encourage attire that honours Lunar New Year cultures. For more details, including information on seating and the non-uniform day, please refer to the Whole School section of this update. We eagerly anticipate celebrating with you.
We had poet and rapper author Mark Grist visit us again this week as part of our Diversity series. Mark worked with our Year 7, 8, and 12 students, sharing insights into personal and imaginative poetry and its real-life significance beyond the classroom. His sessions, ranging from creative writing to discussions on Sylvia Plath and the nature of language in art, were met with enthusiastic responses. Mark’s contribution, especially his discussion on music and poetry’s role in Black History Month, deeply enriched our school’s appreciation for poetry. It was a privilege to host him and witness the positive impact on our students.
Please enjoy a wonderful weekend ahead.
With my best wishes,
Mr Guðmundur Hegner Jónsson
